Very often a person wanting to start Aikido is intimidated by fits of fitness and spectacular breakfalls in Aikido YouTube videos. The good news is that to achieve the goal of Aikido, which is to develop a calm and positive approach to our daily life – this impressive acrobatics is not required. How many of us need breakfalls to be successful in our daily jobs?
The best Aikido is unspectacular. Similar to the best self-defense, when a situation is diffused through calm and positive approach, even before the need in self-defense techniques arises.
If you are to watch Aikido videos, our advice is to look for a smile rather than contracted faces and noisy breakfalls. A good example is on the photo from one of the Summer Seminars from the Ki Federation Headquarters.
“Aikido is for everyone” – its movements naturally adapt to the student’s ability. We invite everyone regardless of their age or level of fitness to benefit from Aikido.
